Mesa City Council

The City of Mesa elects its Mayor at-large and one Councilmember from each of six (6) geographic districts. Voters choose the Mayor and their Councilmember every four years.  District Councilmembers serve overlapping terms, with three (3) Councilmembers being elected at a time.

2008 Mayoral and Council Election

Due to the passage of recent legislation, Mesa's 2008 Mayoral and Council Elections will be held on a spring election cycle. The Primary Election will be held on March 11, 2008 and a General Election (Runoff Election), if required, will be held on May 20, 2008.

2010 Council Election

The 2010 Council Elections (and all subsequent Council Elections) will be held on a fall election cycle (September/November).


Chandler City Council

The next regularly scheduled election for the City of Chandler will be Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in consolidation with the statewide election. The ballot will include the choices of electing a Mayor and three Councilmembers.   If necessary, a runoff election will be on November 4, 2008.   Elections are non-partisan and at-large.  

The term of the office of Mayor is two years and is limited to four consecutive terms. 
The term of the office of Councilmember is four years and is limited to two consecutive terms.
 
Candidate Nomination packets will be available after January 1st in the office of the City Clerk. Only qualified electors of the city shall be eligible to hold office.   Each candidate must have been a resident of the city or an annexed area for at least two years immediately preceding his/her election.

Scottsdale City Council adopts workplace protections for city employees

In a 4-3 vote tonight, the Scottsdale City Council enacted an ordinance that extends workplace protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender city employees.  By adopting Ordinance No. 3765, the city council amended the city’s equal employment opportunity ordinance to include sexual orientation and gender identity.  Mayor Mary Manross joined Councilmembers Betty Drake, Robert Littlefield and Vice Mayor Wayne Ecton in voting for the ordinance, while Councilmembers Ron McCullagh, Tony Nelssen, and W.J. “Jim” Lane opposed it.
